Burt Bluhm

Molecular Plant Pathology, an international journal published in association with the British Society of Plant Pathology, recently awarded its Best Student Paper Prize to Burt Bluhm, assistant professor of plant pathology. Bluhm joined the Arkansas faculty in March 2008 and authored the winning paper as a Ph.D. candidate at Purdue Univeristy.

The winning paper, "Involvement of ZFR1 of Fusarium verticillioides in kernel colonization and the regulation of FST1, a putative sugar transporter gene required for fumonisin biosynthesis on maize kernels," was selected from 14 finalists.

Bluhm, whose research specialty is host-plant resistance pathology, will receive a monetary prize, complimentary membership to the BSPP for two years, and an opportunity to attend the Society's annual Presidential conference in London, UK in December.
