Education
Service
Assist Arkansas rice growers, consultants and county agents with rice disease control issues.
Courses Taught
Assist with field crop disease control courses.
Research Emphasis
I have an interest in all rice diseases, particularly those causing economic losses through reduced plant stands, reduced rough rice and milling yields, low quality grain, low quality seed rice and reduced plant efficiency. My overall research program emphasizes integrating basic and applied research to provide the critical control strategies and technology needed to counter increased rice disease incidence and severity arising through changes in the environmental, rice cultivars and cultural practices. Primary emphasis is on rice sheath blight and rice blast diseases. Approach is through gene discovery, identification and utilization to develop disease resistant cultivars and to manipulate culture practices. Although erratic from year to year, rice diseases cause tremendous yield losses annually and has decimated individual fields throughout the state.
