Derald A. and Betty L. Slack Graduate Award in Plant Pathology

An endowed M.S. graduate award in the Department of Plant Pathology in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences (Bumpers College), University of Arkansas, has been established by Dr. Steven Slack in honor of his parents - Derald and Betty Slack.

The purpose of the Derald A. and Betty L. Slack Graduate Award in Plant Pathology shall be to reward an outstanding graduate student who has completed the first year of the M.S. Program in Plant Pathology at the U of A, Fayetteville.

All students who are entering their second year (having completed two or more semesters) of study toward a Master of Science degree in Plant Pathology are eligible for the award, regardless of whether they are receiving a state assistantship, grant funds, other fellowships and scholarships, or have outside employment. Students are eligible regardless of race, sex, creed, national origin, or citizenship.

The award shall be given on a competitive basis. Qualified students must apply through the formal application procedure. The procedure shall include, but is not limited to, a letter of application, a summary of academic performance, a summary emphasizing research accomplishments, a summary of professional and extracurricular involvement, and three letters of reference.

The award shall be for a minimum of $1250 providing sufficient funds are available. The award shall not be awarded more than once in an academic year. There shall be no requirement that an award be conferred in any academic year if it is determined that no qualified candidate is available.
